Some brilliant news just in: Localauthorityfinances.com has won in the World Summit Awards.
Not only has it won its category of Government & Open Data, but it has also been selected by the WSA Grand Jury as the best and most innovative Digital Innovation with high impact on society 2015.
The WSA is a United Nations funded awards for the world’s best e-Content and innovation communications. Once every two years, it makes these awards, and I am absolutely thrilled awed and delighted to be a winner for Ireland.
By the way, the first thing I did when I heard we won was check the list of winners to see if there are any other Irish there, and yes! – we are in good company: CoderDojo has also won! Congrats to them, but what this says about the quality of Irish websites is quite huge: 2 out of the 40 winners come from Ireland.
Ireland certainly punches above its weight when it comes to innovative website design, making up 5% of the winners.
The World Summit Award promotes smart content for smart people. On a biennial basis, it awards the content that contributes to a true knowledge society and promotes it at a global congress.
There were two stages to the judging; you had to be nominated by your country’s representative. Then all the entries were reviewed and a short list by category was presented to the WSA Grand Jury. The Grand Jury met in Baku, Azerbaijan, to evaluate all shortlisted projects and to select out the best 5 candidates by category. The 19 Grand Jurors did lots of research, engaged in passionate discussions and worked long evenings – and in the end they decided on the 40 WSA winners 2015. View the full list of winners here.
I am honoured to be there on behalf of Ireland with a website done for a longstanding and favourite client, Publicpolicy.ie.And I’m already looking forward to the Awards Ceremony in China in spring!
