Background:
Because many native Spanish speakers who come to live in Ireland find it very difficult to meet Irish people, and because increasing numbers of Irish are learning Spanish than ever before . .. Spanglish was created!
Design & Development:
- Brightspark worked with the client on this project from start to finish: we designed the logo, planned the site’s content and information architecture, and designed and developed this social networking site using Ruby on Rails.
- We chose Ruby on Rails as the developmental framework because it lends itself well to projects such as this; greatly facilitating scalability and allowing for tidy coding on the back end.
- The site design demanded a friendly feel, appealing to young and old alike. This is achieved with fresh contemporary design and strong images of real people.
- We introduced some AJAX to the shopping cart. This makes the purchasing process more seamless and less one dimensional.

- What better way to learn a new language than to communicate with native speakers? Create a profile on Spanglish and start sending messages to others. Make friends, meet new people.
- Spanglish features a podcasts section where members can download podcasts in Spanish and English about all sorts of interesting topics. All levels of Spanish and English are catered for. If you’re feeling articulate, why not upload a podcast to the site so that others can learn from you?
- Because food and wine play such important roles in Spanish culture, Spanglish features recipes in English and in Spanish. Ever wanted to learn how to make a great paella? Well now you can. Log on, download the recipe and get cooking!
- And for when you’re not busy learning Spanish, cooking up a storm, and recording your voice, Spanglish organises offline events. Hook up with your new online buddies. Put a face on the name... and you never know, you might really like that face!!
