Hard Lessons Learned
February 09, 2004
Next summer, when I'm sneaking a little day at the beach, mid-week "because I can", remind me about last week and the downside of working for yourself!
Last week, I was very not very well at all. It wasn't just my second bad cold in January, it turned out to be a lung and ear infection. It required a visit to the doctor, the first since my return to Ireland in 2001.
The doctor told me that I should rest up and take it easy. This was at 11am on Tuesday. I knew that I couldn't spare the time for resting up until 3pm on Friday when the week's deadlines were over. I felt so sorry for myself. Not for me the video/7up recovery combo. No, I was busy on documents and meetings, and responding to emails and the never ceasing telephone.
By the time Friday afternoon came, the antibiotics had worked a treat, and so I didn't really feel the need to take to the couch.
Thankfully, this week is looking altogether more positive. Spring has definitely made an appearance: outside the window there is a smattering of daffodils. There does seem to be a stretch in the evenings . . and I'm going on a week's holiday at the end of the week. Roll on the weekend!
In case you are unfortunate enough to need a doctor and are in the heart of the city, I highly recommend Dr. King, whose rooms are downstairs from the City Pharmacy on Dame Street. He and another doctor are available there from 9-6pm, Monday-Friday, and 12-6pm Sat and 12-2pm Sunday. Not only that but he really did seem to care!
