Obscene Image?
Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Some people say that they pick up a definite sense of 'female-ness' off our site. Not our work mind you, but from this site. That's OK, provided the sense is of sassy chicks, rather than mustachio'ed old ladies!
Whilst perusing the other nominees of the Net Visionary Awards yesterday I came across a site whose imagery has a definite sense of 'male-ness'. Check out the image on this site: http://www.2bscene.net/.
When you load up the site for the first time, the thing just kind of rises up!!
Then check out the company name - sort of looks like obscene? Is this for real and intentional or are those guys just unaware of the big phallic image on their site?
Now, in case you haven't done it yet, go and vote for us in the Net Visionary Awards! We're up for Internet Marketing, Blogging, and Web Design. Vote now.

Firstly, thanks for finding our site worthy enough to be mentioned on your blog and best of luck in the net visionary awards for same!
Since we went live with our new site we have been inundated with blog posts about our site, which for us is great. As the old saying goes, "Any publicity is good publicity "!
If I'm to be honest, it was my wife (a director) who pointed this out to us just before our site was to go live. When she said it, I thought why not leave it and see what type of a reaction we get. So far, it's been mostly women that have commented on it. So if anything, it appeals more to the female race than the male. Funnily, judging by my wifes dirty mind and now your comments about a "big phallic" - I can see exactly what type of mind you have too!! ;)
2bscene does play on the "obscene" word, this was one of the many reasons why the name was chosen. It was a way of getting people to take a second look, which is why we left this image too.... you have to take a second look to make sure it is a laptop!
But if you're a woman it seems you'd probably take a second look to see if it's a "big phallic"!! :)

Good name and catchy visual BUT if this is a marketing company why the fluffy language that fails to connect with the issues and challenges of its target market
"2bscene are an online marketing, web design and web development company based in Dublin, Ireland. We create robust, affordable, results driven internet and mobile solutions to companies of all sizes throughout Ireland and Europe"

Thanks for the comments Paul.
Firstly, we're not a marketing company.
We're an ONLINE marketing company, we work with other marketing companies and teams to help bring their brand to the web and help them best achieve results from their website.
We know that people that don't read websites, they scan for the bits of information they seek. The first paragraph there is about generating rankings on search engines for the keyphrases listed there.
If you take a look at your own site for example - do you appear on the search engines for search phrases relating to your business?
Did you know that over 80% of people will search for products or services they seek as opposed to a business name?
You might have nice sales text, but unfortunately, it doesn't hold much weight in the search engine world.
I'm always open to suggestions, so if you can you tell me how best to write this and get all our phrases in there I would be very interested! :)
